Week 8 Swim Team News

While it’s hard to believe it came and went so quickly, yesterday we competed in our final Saturday dual meet of the season. The Kings Ridge Water Wizards have had a similar season to us and going into yesterday, like us, our teams were undefeated. If you compare our scores against the other 4 teams in the Division and their scores against the same teams, it was clear that our teams were pretty evenly matched. Unfortunately for us, they were the dominant team yesterday, defeating us with a score of 230 to 190. So, with that, based on the win/loss records, Greenbriar is the runner up for the Division 11 championship.

There were no frowns to find on deck yesterday because it was an exciting meet, made even more so by our 15-18 boys Medley Relay of Sky Lan, Ted Kim, Ocean Lan, and Ben Clabeaux breaking the old pool record from 2021 with a time of 1:50.44.

Our Dolphins had a fantastic season considering we won the Divisional Relay Carnival, had 4 very strong wins, sent more relays to All Stars than any other team in our Division, and finished with our best win/loss record since 2014.

And speaking of records, we have another reason to celebrate. At All Star Relays this past Wednesday our 8&Under Gilrs Medley consisting of Evelina Cheng, Felicity Hessel, Stella Cheng, and Brigid Cooley improved their record to 1:33.82. They were the holders of the existing record from two weeks prior at the Divisional Relay Carnival which they set with a time of 1:35.48.

On to week 8…

Practices - We have regular practices tomorrow to prepare our swimmers for our final home B Meet at Virginia Run, and on Tuesday we’ll have our final fun-day practice of the 2024 season which will be the last practice for many of our swimmers. Wednesday through Friday will be practices only for those swimmers entered into the Saturday Divisionals Meet at Greenbriar.

Tomorrow night (Monday) -Thiis our final Monday meet of the season when we head over to Virgina Run (15355 Wetherburn Court Centreville, VA 20120). We have a number of swimmers signed up, and we still have several volunteer positions we need to fill, so please head over to the Events page and sign up for one or more jobs your family can complete for the team. (Job signup link: Virginia Run Job Signup. Because Virginia Run runs 10 lanes for their meets we need 15 timers per half, so if you can sign up and time for both halves we’d appreciate it. We’re equally happy to have spouses swap in for their spouse as well. We really need to fully staff this meet so that it can end at a reasonable time. Swimmers should be in our Team Area by 5PM ready for a 5:20PM warmup. A separate email to participating families with meet details will follow later today or tomorrow morning.

Divisionals (Saturday) - On Saturday (6/20) Greenbriar will host the Division 11 Individual Championship meet where each team will enter the fastest two swimmers in each event. This is a large format meet and we need all the help we can get to successfully pull it off. Even if your swimmer is not entered into the meet, we still really need your help. By holding these large format meets we raise a good amount of money through the sale of concessions. This extra infusion of cash is what allows us to keep our costs down as the registration fees you pay do not by themselves cover all our costs (team suits, caps, coach salaries, insurance). Some of the items we need take only a little time and we’ve tried to spread out the jobs to have many, but shorter shifts. If you have a teen who is looking for opportunities to retire service hour commitment’s to their school or other organization we will validate their involvement. Because there are 6 other teams sharing the meet official volunteer load most of our signups for this meet will be related to selling in our diner or manning one of the two parking gates for a short shift. Thanks so much for your continued involvement! Head on over the the job signup page and select items your family can bring to the pool and/or job shifts your family can complete for the team! (Job signup link: Divisionals Job Signup)

Awards Banquet - Our end of the season Awards Banquet is next Saturday (6/20) evening at Rocky Run Middle School. You should have seen a dedicated email with instructions on how to pay, but we first really need every family to RSVP using Swimtopia by navigating to this page as soon as possible for planning and preparation reasons. We’ll need some volunteer help as well to pull that off.

REMINDER- Pictures Still Needed: This season we’ve not had dedicated photographers capturing those exciting moments for our team on and off the pool deck. Because of this we need those pictures you’ve captured of our swimmers that you’re willing to share for our end-of-season slideshow. If you have photos you'd like to share, please feel free to upload to the album 2024 Season Photos.

See you at one pool or another this week,
Dan, Rob, and Stephanie
