Recap - 6/24 Fox Mill Woods vs Greenbriar

On Saturday we faced the Fox Mill Woods Fintastics from Reston.  We had some great individual swims and we had a strong showing in the relays including our Mixed-Age girls relay just out-touching their opponents for a super-exciting finish.  Final score was 253 Greenbriar to 166 Fox Mill Woods.  We are currently 2 wins and 0 losses heading into week 3 when we will face the other undefeated team in the division, Hollin Meadows.

For individual results, head to your swimmer's page at https://www.greenbriardolphins.org/ or in the SwimTopia app.

Swimmers Placing at Saturday Meets: If your swimmer placed second or third in any individual event in a Saturday Meet, if they choose to swim that event in a Monday Meet it will be unofficial (aka Exhibition) for the rest of the season. If your swimmer placed first in any individual event in a Saturday Meet, all events (excluding IM) will be unofficial (aka Exhibition) in a Monday Meet for the rest of the season. When a swimmer is swimming in an Exhibition event, their times count but they do not place.

Mankiller Monday Practice: Coach Pat introduced our 7:30am and 8:45am practice groups to Mankiller Monday practice last week which is all out muscle work, combining 25m sprints with deck exercises like push-ups, jump squats, Russian twists, and suitcases. Ask your swimmer if they enjoyed Mankiller Monday đź’Ş

Greenbriar Hosting Little Rocky Run Tonight! - arrive by 5: This evening we are hosting the Little Rocky Run Stingrays swim team. Registered swimmers should arrive at the pool at 4:45pm so that they can begin their team warmup at 5:00pm. We could still use some additional volunteers for setup@4PM, 2nd Half Clerk of Course, and at our Dolphin Diner. Sign up for a job your family can complete for the team here.

6/27 Theater Tuesday: Rumor has it there is a group of swimmers heading to see a 1PM showing of “Spiderman: Across the SpiderVerse.” You can learn about where and how to get the discount for you and your swimmers on the Event Signup page.

6/28 Divisional Relay Carnival: The division relay carnival happens once a season where all six teams in each division converge on one pool for an evening of relay races. These include freestyle relays (each swimmer swims freestyle) and medley relays (each swimmer swims a different stroke). You should have already declared, but there are still a couple of hours if you haven’t let us know your swimmer is available. Swimmer selection for the meet will be emailed on Tuesday.

6/29 York Swim Club On Deck for Practice: Bob York will be leading a Racing Clinic for our team on Thursday June 29 in lieu of regular morning practices.

Swimmers 9 & over are invited to the clinic from 9-9:45; a second clinic will be held for 8 & under swimmers from 9:45-10:30. Swimmers will be able to work with the Greenbriar and York coaches to refine their strokes, starts, and turns. All swimmers are encouraged to attend!

13 & over and Early Bird swimmers will still have practice before the clinic from 7:30am - 8:45am (8:30am for Early Bird). They are still strongly encouraged to participate in the clinic afterwards.

6/30 Pep Rally Friday: Thank you Melinda Perez and crew for organizing a fabulously fun luau last Friday evening. Event signups are open for this week’s Pep Rally - let’s celebrate the 4th of July a little early with an all American potluck. Join us at the tables under the umbrellas near the sandpit for food and fun. Bring your folding chairs, picnic blankets and BUG SPRAY!

These events are a great time for families to meet at the pool, socialize and have your cars decorated for the weekend's meet. Older swimmers will assist younger swimmers with decorating windows & writing names on cars to make our caravan stand out as we enter our opponent’s pool and neighborhood. All team members are welcome to come even if you are not swimming in the A meet! Come decorate cars and socialize with the whole team!

7/1 Greenbriar vs Hollin Meadows: Please declare swimmer availability for the team’s Saturday meet against Hollin Meadows (Alexandria). The declaration deadline is 6PM Tonight. Final swimmer selection for the meet will be emailed on Thursday. As per our usual tradition, we plan to caravan to Hollin Meadows from the pool parking lot.

Volunteer Shoutout: Our Hospitality Volunteer, Emily Vizcaino, has made a big splash with her Team Rep gifts that include a balance of poolside practical and fun gifts like Diner Meal Deal (Thank you Dolphin Diner!), fun sunglasses, a cooling towel, hydration water packets, sunblock wipes, sanitizer, gum, and snacks. Thank you Emily!

Swimmer Outing for 12-and-under Event Coordinator Wanted: The team is looking for a person/people who enjoy(s) planning and running events while having fun with kids (and their grown-ups) to take charge of an event. Previous hits have included bowling, laser tag, water park, trampoline park, you get the idea…if your kid enjoys it, others probably will also!

There’s only four more weeks of summer swim so let’s get something on the books.

For one event, this person will

  • Research an activity, including cost, any group discount available, availability of the venue.
  • If needed, create an event in SwimTopia (support available) to catch RSVPs and Job sign ups if needed.
  • Promote the event.
  • Attend, coordinate and have fun enjoying the event on-site.

If you are interested in giving it a try let us know by responding to this email.

See you at the pool!
