Week 3 News
Time Trials 2023 is in the books! When I woke up and saw the temperature I was a little concerned, but the day turned out to be much nicer than I expected, and MUCH nicer than it was for Time Trials the past two years. Thank you parents for volunteering to help run the meet smoothly. We could not do this without you.

Practices: Our afternoon practice schedule resumes on Monday. There will be NO PRACTICE on Friday as it’s the last day of school for FCPS. I can’t imagine anyone is really excited about that. On Monday, June 19th we flip over to our morning practice schedule for the remainder of the season. You can view the practice schedule here.
Upcoming Swim Meets:We have two upcoming swim meets.
- On Saturday, June 17th we will host the Mosby Wood Raiders at our pool for our first NVSL dual meet of the season. For your swimmer to be considered for this meet, you must identify whether they are available before this Monday at 6PM. To do so, go to the team website, and navigate to “Meets & Events / Signup Calendar” to find the event. Once there, click the greenMeet Entry openbutton and indicate whether your swimmer is available or not available for this meet (you’ll be prompted to login if you have not done so). Swimmers who remain undeclared will be considered unavailable. Swimmers and parents will typically be notified at practice on Thursday if they are swimming in the meet on Saturday morning. Selected swimmers will need to arrive at the pool at 7:35AM for a 7:45AM warmup in their Team Suit and Team Swim Cap. The meet will start promptly at 9AM.
- On Monday, June 19th we will be hosted by the Oakton Otters (11714 Flemish Mill Ct, Oakton, VA 22124) for our first WFDL developmental meet of the season. All swimmers are invited to sign up to swim two individual strokes (Free, Back, Breast, Fly) plus the 100 Meter Individual Medley (100M IM) if they are legal in all four strokes. The deadline to sign your swimmers up for their strokes is Saturday, June 17th by 6:00PM. The process to do so is similar to the instructions above except that after declaring whether your swimmer will attend or not you will be prompted to select their strokes. There is also a field in which you can leave notes for our Head Coach which they will see before finalizing the meet. Swimmers who are not signed up for strokes will be considered to be not attending the event. The typical timeline for an away meet has us arriving at the host pool by 5:00PM with our warmup starting at 5:20PM and the meet kicking off promptly at 6:00PM. Again, all swimmers should attend in their Team Suit with their Team Cap.
All Meet and Job Signups Are Open: Signups for ALL MEETS are now open. It is critical for Coach Pat, Coach Ben and other key volunteers to know whether your swimmer is available for a given meet or not, and what volunteer positions are filled. It’s very easy for you to communicate these commitments through SwimTopia. You are welcome to do this for all meets far in advance and change it before the deadline for that meet if necessary. The rule of thumb to remember for meets:
The deadline to declare for Saturday Meets is Monday.
The deadline to declare for Monday Meets is Saturday
Learn it. Know it. Live it. 🙂
Suits, Caps, T-Shirts: Our awesome apparel coordinators were handing out team suits, caps, and t-shirts at the pool yesterday during practice and this morning during our swim meet. If you have not yet collected your swimmers gear, please contact our apparel coordinators by emailing them at [email protected]. If you had special ordered silicone team caps, they should be arriving some time this coming week.
Upcoming Social Activities: We have a couple of social activities you’ll find under“Upcoming Events”coming up that you need to be aware of:
- PepRally on Friday Night: This Friday (the 16th) is our first Pep Rally of the season. The theme for the Pep Rally and the neighboring swim meets is “Green Out” and we’re having Italian. You can RSVP for your family, sign up to assist, and figure out what you’re assigned to bring (based on your swimmer’s age group) on the dedicated event page.
- Pancake Breakfast: Our longstanding tradition is to treat our swimmers to a pancake breakfast after their first morning practice of the season. Please RSVP for your swimmer and signup to help us serve the kids. It’s a fun morning for all. Our graduating seniors often mention the pancake breakfast as one of their favorite memories of summer swim.
And finally…
Photographer Still Needed: We’re looking for one or more people to designate as our photographer to capture moments primarily for the purpose of our end-of-season slideshow. Whether you are a professional or amateur with a DSLR or an iPhone we want folks capturing the best moments of the season as they will be over in the blink of an eye. If you are interested in filling this role for some or all of our events please send an email to [email protected].
See you at the pool!
